Sykes Cup & Paddock Shield Semi Final Draw

21st June 2017

A pair of exciting semi-finals await in the All-Rounder Cricket Sykes Cup, scheduled to be played on consecutive Sundays in July.

The first draw, on Sunday July 9th, pits Broad Oak, making their first appearance at this stage in 24 years, who will entertain three-time Sykes Cup winners Skelmanthorpe. Broad Oak, who put in a simply breathtaking performance to edge out last seasons finalists Shepley will perhaps start the match as favourites but as anyone involved in local cricket knows, the Sykes Cup has an uncanny knack of throwing form books out of the window. James Crossland's Skelmanthorpe side have plenty of pedigree and potential to turn the tables on the hosts who will be looking to overseas professional Ben Hyde to put in a performance that may give them the edge.

A thoroughly entertaining clash in the second draw - to be played Sunday, July 16th - pairs two powerful batting lineups together with Premiership leaders Hoylandswaine facing Scholes at home. Hoylandswaine's flamboyant line-up will face a fierce test at home to a team who have inflicted their only defeat this season after Scholes pulled off a thrilling final over victory at Haigh Lane in May. Scholes are expected to field two of the leagues most high profile batsmen in West Indian Devon Smith and UK passport-holding Kiwi run machine Joe Carter. Whereas Hoylandswaine can depend on a batting line-up that an plunder runs from 1 to 11, in particularly opener Gharib Nawaz and upper order batsman Chris Holliday.

Drakes Huddersfield Cricket league Associate Members Edgerton & Dalton 1XI have marked a superb debut season so far with home advantage in the Fired Up Corp Paddock Shield Semi-final where they will face fellow Championship Two side Holmfirth; conquerors of Hoylandswaine of Premiership Two in the quarter final. Edgerton & Dalton's reward for knocking out Honley gives them an excellent opportunity to reach a showpiece final but Ian Whiteley's Homfirth team will have a lot to say before then in the first semi-final to be played on Sunday July 9th.

Elsewhere the two highest-ranked teams left in the competition will play each other with Kirkburton gaining home advantage against a Scholes side who are competing on three fronts (They play an inter-league Crowther Cup semi-final the week before as part of a huge week for the club). Scholes were also last season's defeated finalists so they will be hoping to go one better away at the Premiership Two leaders. This match is scheduled to be played on Sunday 16th July.
