The League Executive have stated that the new season will start on Saturday 20 April. Some queries had been made regarding the recent cold weather and snow, however, clubs should be aware that it is the intention to start on the scheduled date.Important Information For All Clubs

Clubs are reminded that the League Executive will not grant permission to a club for any match rescheduling.
Player's Cricket Clothing Advertising
Below is a reminder of the policy reissued in 2012:
For all competitions except the All rounder Cricket T20 Competitions:
- All cricket clothing must be predominantly white/cream, although it is acceptable to use shirts/trousers that have small areas of coloured flashes that some manufacturers are marketing.
- Club badges, manufacturer's logos or advertiser's logos may be used on both shirt/sweater breast pocket areas with each logo not exceeding 4 inches by 4 inches (10.2cm by 10.2cm).
- An advertiser's logo may be used centrally on the front of players’ shirts and/or sweaters and may not exceed 8 inches by 4 inches (20.4 cm by 10.2cm).
- All flashes, logos and advertising referred to in 1) to 3) below should be identical for all players within any team. any individual player logo or advertising is not permitted.
- Apart from the manufacturer's logo shown on any item of cricket clothing no other advertising is permitted other than that shown above. Player's names and/or numbers on shirts, sweaters or trousers are specifically prohibited.
- There is no restriction whatsoever to advertising on tracksuits etc. that are not used on the field of play.
It should be noted that this policy will be strictly monitored and any club contravening any of the points below will be requested to make the appropriate amendments.

As a reminder to clubs - Although the Sykes Cup will be played to "one day rules" from 2013, this will not be the case in the Paddock Shield, and the rules will be as in previous years.
Expansion of the League
At the February Executive meeting it was decided to call an SGM in order to vote on the recommendation from the Executive committee that, Birkby Rose Hill, Cartworth Moor, Thurstonland and Upperthong be admitted to Membership of the Drakes Huddersfield Cricket League from season 2014. The Executive further propose to amend the promotion and relegation at the end of the 2013 season to Premiership, bottom 2 be relegated, Championship, top 2 promoted and bottom 1 be relegated, Conference top 5 promoted, so giving a League structure of Premiership 14, Championship 12 & Conference 12.
The result of the ballot will be available on Wednesday 6th March.
Registration, Transfer and Declaration Form (RTDF)
From season 2013 the RTDF will be include an extra parental consent section. This would need completion should the registering player be an Under 13 player ie aged 12 and in school Year 8 on 1st September, or an Under 12 County or Area player ie aged 11 and in school Year 7 on 1st September.
T20 Trophy changes
1.) At the quarter final stage of the T20 Trophy all four group winners will have home advantage.
2.) In the event of there being sides with equal points, the best average achieved for and against per wicket, calculated from all group matches played, will take the higher position. (This replaces the previous runs per over calculation).
White Rose competition
This competition has now been wound up due to lack of interest from participating leagues.

League Dinner - Last Few Days To Pick Up Tickets

The annual League Dinner evening on Friday 18th January is fast approaching and so is the last chance to reserve your tickets for the League's showpiece awards evening. The last date for reserving is on Friday 11th January and tickets are priced at £32.50 per person.
To remind you of the entertainment on that evening, the main speaker will be ex-Kiwi test cricketer and Sky Sports presenter Jeremy Coney with Mike Kelly providing the after-dinner comedy.

Holmfirth v Lepton Highlanders 15th September
Lepton Highlanders playing an ineligible player:
The decision reached was to fine Lepton Highlanders £20 and deduct 6 points from their 2012 season total as per rule L6b). However, due to the seriousness of the offence, it was also decided to fine Lepton Highlanders an additional £100 and deduct 12 points from the start of the 2013 season.
It was also decided that the Captain of the day had a case to answer for “bringing the game and the League into disrepute”, and he would be contacted by the Disciplinary Secretary.
A statement from the President
The President stated that he would be standing down as President of the League at the AGM in December.
The Executive committee unanimously agreed that Vice-President Earnshaw should be invited to take up the vacated position of League President. Vice-President Earnshaw said that he was very pleased and honoured to accept the invitation.
The Chairman proposed that upon his resignation, The President should be invited to become a Life-Vice President of the League. This was unanimously agreed by the Executive committee, and the proposal was gratefully accepted by the President.
League Dinner update
Ticket prices for this year's dinner would be £32.50. Comedian Mike Kelly would be supporting the main speaker, Jeremy Coney, and all of the new clubs for 2013 would be invited to attend the dinner.

League President, Bob Platt, To Retire

BOB PLATT has announced his retirement as President of the Drakes Huddersfield Cricket League.
The former Yorkshire pace bowler has been League figurehead for the last 20 years, but has now decided to step down after serving the League magnificently for two decades.
He took on the presidency in 1993, succeeding the late Jim Dawson, and his deep knowledge of the game and advice has been invaluable to the League and its principal officers, chairman Trevor Atkinson and his predecessor Roger France.
Platt has been made an Honorary Life Vice-President and will be succeeded as League president by Almondbury’s Donald Earnshaw (inset), also a Life Vice-President of the League.
League chairman Atkinson paid tribute to Platt, whose family firm sponsor the Frank Platt Championship section of the League.
“During my first year as chairman Bob has been extremely approachable and very supportive,” he said.
“His knowledge and enthusiasm for cricket, when combined with considerable business expertise, has made him a formidale and much-respected president.
“It is reassuring to know that he will remain involved in the League in a new role as Honorary Life Vice-President.”
On the new president, Atkinson added: “I’ve worked very closely with Donald in his dual role as Senior Vice-President and Disciplinary Officer and found his knowledge and wisdom invaluable.
“His appointment as the League’s new president is a just reward for a life-time of commitment to both Almondbury Cricket Club and the Huddersfield League.
“I am looking forward to the continuation of our excellent relationship.”
Platt began his playing career with Holmfirth as an 11-year-old while still a schoolboy at Holme Valley Grammar School and, four years later, helped his club win the Huddersfield Junior Cricket League’s Knockout Cup (the forerunner of the Walker Cup and Oldfield Cup).
He joined Leeds in the Yorkshire League at 19, and from there was given a chance to play for Northamptonshire Seconds.
In 1954 he went on National Service, during which time he played for the RAF and Combined Services. He also played for Bradford Park Avenue, helping them to the Bradford League Championshp and the Priestley Cup.
At the conclusion of National Service he was quickly snapped up by the then Yorkshire chairman Brian Sellers and made his debut for the county Second team at Macclesfield, before making his first team debut against Sussex at Bramall Lane, Sheffield in 1955.
For the record, on his debut, his teammates were Lowson, Padgett, Sutcliffe, Watson, Wilson, Close, Yardley, Illingworth, Wardle and Binks, and when Platt was thrown the ball he made his mark by taking four for 70 in the first innings.
He was awarded his county cap in 1959 and went on to take almost 300 wickets in 96 games before his Yorkshire career ended in 1964 after serious injury – he ruptured an Achilles tendon – following which he began to help with the family’s electrical business.
However, he resumed his Yorkshire League career two years later, playing with Halifax, with whom he won the League’s bowling averages, before briefly returning to Northants to run the Seconds and help out in the Firsts when they were short.
“Brian Sellers promptly rang me to say I could do the same job at Yorkshire, so that’s what I did,” reflected Platt.
In 1968 he was appointed Second team captain before returning once again to Bradford Park Avenue, whom he also served as president for three years, not to mention winning the Bradford League bowling averages in both 1971 and 1972.
While at Park Avenue he also produced two remarkable performances, grabbing a hat trick against Idle with the first three balls of the match, while he once took seven wickets for no runs against Lidgett Green.
He finally called time on his playing career at the age of 40, turning is attention once more to the family business, and to the administrative side of the game, being elected to represent the Huddersfield district (later to become the West district) on the Yorkshire County committee in 1983.
He was chosen as Drakes League president in 1993, but then in 1995 came the biggest accolade when he was elected as chairman of Yorkshire’s cricket committee.
Another role that he will long be remembered for was being instrumental, along with Bob Appleyard, in setting up Yorkshire’s now much-admired Cricket Academy.

Applications Required From Clubs To Join The Heavy Woollen Cup Competition

Due to the resignation of at least two clubs from the Competition, the Management Committee are looking to fill these vacancies for the 2013
The stipulations for membership are that Clubs must be within 18 miles of Batley Town Hall and that clubs must enter a first team in the Heavy Woollen Cup and a second team in the Crowther
The admission of Clubs will be at the discretion of the Management
Any club wishing to apply should put in their request on Club letter headed paper and sent to the Competition Secretary, Mrs Lesley Robinson, 33 Moss Carr Avenue, Long Lee, Keighley BD21 4SE or by email to keiles33@btopenworld.

Delph & Dobcross win the Earnshaw Cup
9th Sept 2012
Delph & Dobcross today beat Clayton West, by 2 wickets, in a thrilling final played at a sunny Clayton West ground. Clayton West scored an imposing 276 for 3 off their 45 overs, with opener Howell Senior carrying his bat for 126 not out and fellow opener William Lockwood scoring 88. In reply Bradley Cunningham scored 68 and Phil Lees 42. Delph still required 30 off the last 2 overs and 6 off the last ball. Ian Cotterill hit the 6, finishing on 41 not out.
The trophy, for non Premiership 2nd X1's, was presented to the Delph skipper Phil Lees by Donald Earnshaw.
Lorenzo Ingram is the Non EU Player of the Year

The League is pleased to announce that Lorenzo Ingram, of Elland, has been awarded the Non EU Player of the year trophy. Hoylandswaine have clinched the Byrom Shield for the 1st time with victory over current holders Honley today. With Kirkburton beating Elland this put Hoylandswaine on 108 points, and both Kirkburton and Elland on 93 points. With only 2 games to go, the maximum both Kirkburton and Elland can reach is 105 points, so congratulations go to Hoylandswaine.Earnshaw Cup Final Postponed

The Earnshaw Cup Final, which was due to be staged today (Mon 27th August) has been postponed for the second time, due to the weather leaving the wicket too wet for play. The match, between the 2nd X1's of Clayton West and Delph and Dobcross, will now be played on Sunday 9th September with a 12 noon start.Match Start Times in September

Oddfellows/Earnshaw Cup News
6th August 2012
The final of the Earnshaw Cup started yesterday (Sunday) at Thongsbridge. Due to rain during the day, a finish of the match was not possible. The match will continue this evening, weather permitting. The overnight score was :
Almondbury 192 in 45 overs (L Brothers 49, N Latif 42; I Shah 5-55),
*Thongsbridge 107-4 in 28 overs (S Rashid 30; M Sykes 3-31 – Rain.
A start was not possible in the Earnshaw Cup final, due to be played between Clayton West and Delph And Dobcross (2nd X1's). A torrential downpour at Clayton West just before the start of the match resulted in the abandonment of the game on the day. The scheduled date for this final is Sunday 26th August.
Twenty20 Finals Winners
29th July 2012
Congratulations to all at Scholes CC and Cawthorne CC who were both victorious at a bustling Chapelgate this afternoon in a fantastic day of cricket. Two close matches were fought out, first by Chris Walmsley's Cawthorne side who edged out Lascelles Hall in the first match to take place - the Twenty20 Shield.
In the second game of the day, Scholes defeated Hoylandswaine by just two runs in a match that went right down to the final ball. Tom Brook, standing in as skipper in the place of the absent Ash Pamment helped his side thwart Hoylandswaine in a see-saw match which really could have gone either way to win the Twenty20 Trophy for the second time.
Full credit to all the staff and supporters at Scholes CC who, with just three days notice hosted a fantastic Twenty20 finals day which was extremely well attended. The full scores and scorecards for both matches will be posted later this week.

Due to the continued inclement weather, and the prospect of more rain, the Executive committee feel it necessary to publish the following information in relation to the forthcoming Quarter-Final and Semi-Final T/20 ties:
Quarter - Finals:
TT2(d)/TP2(d) – In quarter - finals where no play is possible, or result achieved, on the scheduled day of Tuesday 10th July, clubs may by agreement play the game at any time (with the exception of Saturday 14th July) up to and including Tuesday 17th July.
If no play is possible during that period of time the result shall be decided by a “bowl out” as per the conditions laid down in TT2(d).
Semi Finals
TT2(e)/TP2(e)
- Should opposing teams have both played out their quarter-finals to a conclusion before Tuesday 17th July, the semi - final ties should take place on the scheduled day of Tuesday 17th July.
Where no play is possible, or result achieved, on the scheduled day of Tuesday 17th July, clubs may by agreement play the game at any time (with the exception of Saturday 21st July) up to and including Tuesday 24th July.
If no play is possible during that period of time the result shall be decided by a “bowl out” as per the conditions laid down in TT2(d).

Fixtures and Results
Clubs are advised that they should inform the Match and Registration Secretary and Secretary of the Umpires’ Association of the dates of any rearranged ties. Results and Team sheets should be sent to the Match and Registration Secretary as soon as possible after the completion of each tie, and certainly in line with procedures for League matches.
The Grand Final – Sunday 29th July
The draw to select the host club for the T/20 Trophy and Shield Finals will be made as soon as all results are received by the Match and Registration Secretary. This should be by Tuesday 24th July at the latest.

Twenty20 Information

Due to the recent inclement weather, and the prospect of more rain, the Executive committee feel it necessary to reiterate and/or clarify certain aspects of the T/20 Trophy and Shield rules:
TT2(d) and (e)/TP2(d) and (e):
It should be noted that if a game is started but does not run to its natural course, then a result may be achieved under TT5(j) line9/TP5(j) line9.
However, in order to allow for an interruption of play in the first part of the innings, it is proposed that:
TT5(j) line9 onwards/TP5(j) line9 onwards should read:
“Where an interruption in play occurs during the second innings of a tie, and it is subsequently not possible to complete the full scheduled overs, should at least half of the allocated overs have been completed then a result is achievable.” Rather than:
“Where the first interruption in play occurs during the second innings of a tie, and it is subsequently not possible to complete the full scheduled overs, should at least half of the allocated overs have been completed then a result is achievable.”
Reducing overs:
It should be noted that TT5(e)/TP5(e) states that “In circumstances where, before the commencement of play, the prospect of inclement weather or bad light is a consideration umpires may reduce the number of overs….”
Bowling restrictions in reduced overs games:
TT5(j)/TP5(j) state that “Where play is delayed or interrupted during the first innings of a tie, and the total overs are consequently reduced for both teams, no player shall bowl more than one-fifth of the total overs remaining” and “Where in these circumstances the reduced number of overs is not exactly divisible by five, not more than one additional over shall be allowed to each qualifying bowler in turn until the full revised total has been allocated.”

Ian Botham Is In Town

Barkisland CC have secured something of a 'coup' by attracting Sir Ian Botham down to Barkisland's Scammonden Road ground to open the new net facilities. Sir Ian, known as "Beefy" to cricket fans worldwide is scheduled to be down to officially start off Barkisland's cricket festival week as part of his Leukemia Awareness campaign. The launch starts this Thursday 21st June at 6:00pm with the bar open and BBQ in full flow. Everyone welcome in a rare chance to meet a genuine cricket legend.

Nominated Charity 2012
The League’s nominated charity for 2012 is “Help 4 Heroes”. A donation of £300 is to be made to the fund, via the T/20 Charity match to be played at Kikburton CC, between a team from the House of Lords and Commons and the cast of Emmerdale, on Sunday July 29th.
Match & Registration Procedure (more detail in the Council meeting minutes):
1) When submitting registration forms:
a) Make sure that the form is completed in block capitals, and is legible.
b) Include date of birth; postcode and name.
c) Note that the surname entered on Part 1 of the form needs to be the one used on the results sheet.
Please note that any ineligible forms will be returned to sender, rendering any registration null and void.
2) When emailing scanned registrations:
a) Use a separate file for each scanned registration.
b) If passport information is included this should be added to the same file as the scanned registration.
3) Junior players playing in open age cricket:
a) Club players must be in the Under 13 age group, in school year 8 and be 12 years old on 1st September of the preceding year, before being able to play in any open age group cricket.
b) County squad and area squad players must be in U12 age group, in school year 7 and be 11 years old on 1st September of the preceding year, before being able to play in any open age group cricket.
In both the above situations written parental consent is required for each game played in, although an adaption to the current RTDF is anticipated which will include a parental/guardian consent section.
4) Match Day registration:
Since match day registration requires the RTDF to be signed by the opposition captain and an officiating umpire, clubs are asked to please ensure that when e- mailing these forms, either both sides are e-mailed or preferably a space on the front of the RTDF is used for any signatures, and then only the front of the form will need e-mailing to the Match & Registration Secretary. Postal communication will remain unchanged
5) Team Sheet & Match Report Form (TMRF):
All clubs should ensure that the essential detail is filled in at the top of the TMRF before these are submitted. It is not the umpires’ responsibility to fill in the headings on the TMRF.
Romida Sykes Cup / Paddock Shield Draws

Tonights Romida Sykes Cup and Paddock Shield semi-final draws were made tonight.
Sykes Cup holders Shepley, after squeezing past Lepton Highlanders on Tuesday evening in a delayed game have been awarded home advantage against Paul Winrow's in-form Elland in the first semi-final due to be played on Sunday 8th July. Elland, with a rich pedigree in the Huddersfield League's main knock out competition will be bidding to win their 14th Sykes Cup but certainly won't find it easy against a strong Shepley side.
The other semi-final is a mouth-watering clash between three-time losing finalists Delph & Dobcross and Hoylandswaine, who are participating in their first Sykes Cup semi-final. Grant Jones' Delph side will enjoy home advantage on a ground known for quick scoring and with two of the league's most potent batting line-ups it's sure to be a thrilling match.
In the Paddock Shield, league leaders Golcar will travel to Hoylandswaine, while Championship leaders Cawthorne will entertain Elland from Premiership Two.

Heavy Woollen Cup / Crowther Cup Draws

Four of our local sides were involved in Monday nights Heavy Woollen and Crowther Cup draws for the quarter final, with the semi-final draw also taking place.
Delph & Dobcross will be very familiar with their illustrious opponents, Wrenthorpe, having been drawn against them for the fifth time in seven seasons. Delph have home advantage against a side who have more or less made this trophy their own over the past half a decade although bragging rights are currently with Grant Jones' team who dumped much-fancied Wrenthorpe out at the first hurdle last term.
Fellow Huddersfield League side, and current holders Shepley will have something to say about that though, although they will need to negotiate a route past Spen Victoria from the Bradford League should they want to progress. It's a happy hunting ground for Danny Glover's side as it's a return to the same ground they picked up silverware last season. Golcar also have a testing road trip, over to Bradford League big guns Hanging Heaton who reached the semi-final stage last time round. A big reward for the Swallow Lane men as they will host the winners of Delph and Wrenthorpe in the semi-final.
Flying the flag for the 2nd XI's, Slaithwaite, have been handed a home tie against Woodlands from the Bradford League. A win would also hand them home advantage in the semi-final against the winners of Wakefield Thornes and Buttershaw St. Pauls (Both from the Central Yorkshire League).
All ties must be played on or before Sunday 1st July. 1:00pm start. The full draw is as follows:

The draw for the last eight of the Sykes Cup and Paddock Shield was made this evening and as expect threw up some mouthwatering ties to look forward to in just a week on Sunday (10th June).
An absolute humdinger of match looks to be in store at Riley Lane as early Premiership leaders Kirkburton will play host to another team in the richest of form in Hoylandswaine. Meanwhile over at Hullen Edge another side who have started the season with a bang, Elland will enjoy a big crowd as they entertain another local side, Golcar in a re-run of the 2009 cup final in which Golcar won.
The Sykes Cup holders, Shepley will be wary of the threat that they face from Lepton Highlanders as they meet them at home. Lepton, who knocked out Premiership Marsden in the last round will have their sights on another giant killing, and they won't come much bigger than the current holders. The final tie sees Cawthorne, who made a superb impact in last years competition by reaching the semi-finals, travel over to Premiership Delph & Dobcross.
In the Paddock Shield, defending champions Scholes have a tricky home tie to negotiate if they are to retain the honours. Elland make the journey to Chapelgate. Premiership Two leaders Golcar face a tie against Championship Two outfit Clayton West. Hoylandswaine, a team enjoying a good 2012 so far will entertain Linthwaite whilst Cawthorne host Hall Bower in the final tie.

Heavy Woollen / Crowther Cup 2nd Round Draw

The draw for the second round of the Heavy Woollen and Crowther Cup was made tonight which threw up some tasty ties for our local sides.
Holders Shepley's reward for overcoming Gomersal for the second time in two seasons is a home derby fixture against rivals Skelmanthorpe in what is of course a mouth-watering re-run of last season's Sykes Cup Final which Shepley also went on to win. Elsewhere there is another hotly anticipated all-Huddersfield League tie where Scholes will host Golcar in a match against two sides you could hardly fit a cigarette paper between.
Delph & Dobcross, conquerers of Central Yorkshire outfit Wakefield Thornes in the first round will be happy to save on the mileage by entertaining another CYCL team New Farnley. It'll be another tough game for Grant Jones' men against a side who finished 3rd in the CYCL Premiership. The side who finished 2nd, Methley, will be Kirkburton's opponents after they edged out Yeadon in a close match.
Finally, Shelley will relish their draw as they play host to Bradford League heavyweights Hanging Heaton.
In the Crowther Cup the all-Huddersfield League affair is at Hill Top where Slaithwaite take on Shepley. Elsewhere Skelmanthorpe host Hanging Heaton and Shelley will have to await the winners of Barnsley or Streethouse who play their first round fixture on Tuesday evening.

Sykes Cup / Paddock Shield 2nd Round Draw

The draw for the 2nd round of the main Huddersfield League knock-out competitions has been made tonight.
Sykes Cup holders Shepley will make the journey to Castle Hill to face newly-promoted Premiership side Hall Bower as they bid to defend the trophy. Skipper Danny Glover will be reasonably satisfied at his club's draw, but won't be taking anything for granted against a hard-working Hall Bower side. Meanwhile Elland's reward for defeating one of the league's strongest sides, Honley is a home fixture against Emley Clarence.
Elsewhere, there are two all-Premiership fixtures. Scholes will lock horns away at three-times runner up Delph & Dobcross in what promises to be the most closely matched affair. Scholes captain Ashley Pamment, who led Golcar to winning the Sykes Cup in 2009 can now count upon the batting prowess of the talismanic Wasim Jaffer whilst Grant Jones has seen his Delph side race to the top of the league this season with two wins out of two. Hoylandswaine, with new skipper John Sadler travel to the Colne Valley and Ian Holt's Slaithwaite outfit.
Premiership sides Kirkburton and Marsden also hit the road heading to Broad Oak and Lepton Highlanders respectively whilst the other fixture sees an all-Conference head-to-head with Linthwaite hosting Cawthorne, a team who in their first season reached the semi-final stage last year.
In the Paddock Shield, holders Scholes make a trip to Kirkheaton whilst the match of the round looks to be at Swallow Lane as Golcar host Shepley. The full draw is below.

The League's Executive Committee have issued the following statement:
Please note that Sunday May 6th is the carry over day for any cup games not started or completed on the Saturday May 5th.
Where it is not possible to either play or complete a game by Sunday, clubs may by agreement with the Umpires play on Monday May 7th. Start times as per league rules.
Where more than 10 overs have been completed on any of the 3 days, league rules apply.
Otherwise the games are to be arranged for Sunday May 13th.
We realise that some clubs may have HW / Crowther Cup commitments, but clubs must appreciate that our own cup competitions must take preference.

Huddersfield Uni Students Need Your Help

Students from the University of Huddersfield are looking for clubs in our league with any information or news that they could film.
They have journalism exams on May 8 & 9 where they need to produce written, audio and film work in their last piece of work at University that is vital in them obtaining a good standard of degree. If your club has any news such as struggling for players or finding it difficult to pay the bills, new overseas players, any young players that could be stars of the future, players who have a very long history at the club, former professionals or basically anything that would consider to be an interesting news piece. They would be very grateful if you could get in contact with them so they could come along and film training, a match or even just a couple of interviews at the ground. They are looking at getting their filming done towards the end of this week or anytime next week.
