The skippers led by example as Golcar’s Jack McNamara and Rastrick’s Jacob Waterson topped the bowling and batting awards for the Jedi Championship with Cumberworth’s George Smith and Linthwaite’s Zahed Ahmed winning in the Conference.
Golcar captain Jack McNamara’s steady spin bowling won the Championship bowling prize to add to his success leading the Swallow Lane side to the Championship title. He finished with an average of 11.26 to pip Armitage Bridge all-rounder Jaycub Curtling (13.86). Rastrick captain Jacob Waterson’s excellent season resulted in him taking the batting award with an average of 61.09 to finish ahead of nearest challenger Nayyar Abbas (49.07). Elsewhere there were awards for Denby’s Faisal Javed (14 catches) and Golcar’s Muhammed Ali (34 victims) who picked up the Michael Pamment Family Cup for fielding and the Harry Mellor Cup for wicket keeping respectively.
Former Lascelles Hall batsman Zahed Ahmed retained the Ronnie Sykes Trophy in the Conference, an award he also won in 2022. Ahmed’s average of 43.18 spearheaded his team Linthwaite to promotion to cap a memorable season at Manchester Road. Cumberworth United’s George Smith finished with a bowling average of 8.31 to take the Hedley Collins Trophy for best Conference bowler and there was a tie for Stephen Sykes Trophy where Marsden’s Parth Naik and Adam Taylor both took 12 outfield catches. Tahseen Suleman’s 30 victims ensured he won the Anderson Cup for his work behind the stumps.
Mirfield’s second team had a clean sweep by winning in every category during an excellent campaign where they topped Alliance Four.
