Berry Drops A Ton For Tip-Top Bower- Lower League Matchday #3 Report

8 May 2023

Former Marsden man Max Berry hammered an unbeaten hundred to send Hall Bower to the top of the Conference. Marsden made it consecutive wins with a dominant defeat over Edgerton & Dalton and elsewhere Mirfield overcame Hoylandswaine Seconds. In the Alliance, Skelmanthorpe’s self-titled ‘Shat Bangers’ claimed a win at home to Thongsbridge and Scholes 2XI romped to an eye-catching success at home to Denby Dale firsts.

Max Berry unpicked Emley Clarence’s bowling as he fired Hall Bower to a win which sent them top of the Conference table. The former Marsden opening batsman made an unbeaten 104 -  his largest senior innings - as Bower set 198-5 batting first. Emley Clarence was dismissed for 141ao with Faisar Siddiq taking 5-34.

Edgerton & Dalton were left well beaten at home to Marsden after being bowled out for just 67 with Ben Lowden claiming 5-21. Marsden knocked off the scant total for four wickets inside 15 overs. Shaun Stenhouse (5-32) caused Hoylandswaine second team problems as they lost at Mirfield 1XI by being bowled out for 109. The hosts replied with 62-4, winning a DLS-formulated match.

In the Alliance, Skelmanthorpe 2’s Ben Oldroyd (64) and Josh Clarkson (54no) were the difference against Thongsbridge 2XI. Staunch ‘Shat’ man Adam Dollive took 5-11 as the visitors were bowled out for 121 in reply to Skelmanthorpe’s score of 211ao.

Scholes second team scored an impressive home win over Denby Dale firsts. New signing Nathan Shaw (64) hit his third fifty of the season which was added to by former Denton St Lawrence man Ben Tighe (88). Denby Dale managed 93-6 before play was ended and a result achieved.

Kirkburton 2XI were dismissed for 154 at home to Delph & Dobcross 2XI but they themselves collapsed from 22-0 to 39-7 on their way to their second defeat of the season. Shiv Bhatoa made 66 and then went on to take 6-38 as Delph were castled for 112. At Far End Lane, Honley’s 168-8 was overhauled by Barkisland who replied with 174-7. Matthew Steers took 3-23 and earlier scored 52no. At Armitage Bridge, the home side’s second team were all out for 94 thanks to Tom Senior’s 4-10. Golcar Twos completed the victory, with a little more wriggle room than their first team a week earlier, by replying with 98-4.
