CCHC Pod #16 - Ash Pamment (Scholes)

4 Aug 2021
“We were a successful second team, because we were so strong. Then breaking into the first team and, if I’m honest, it was the fielding that got me in. I used to field at short square leg to John Shaw and used to catch most things.”

In episode 16, it’s one of the most exciting weeks in the calendar with the Sykes Cup Final; the showpiece occasion and main event as far as cricket is concerned. The Sykes Cup - the first team main knockout competition - is 102 years old and has provided copious amounts of thrills, spills and bellyaches.

Our guest on this episode is someone who knows this competition well. Ash Pamment has devoted his sporting career to Huddersfield Cricket and has been part of three successful sides. He’s had the unique experience of being on the winning team for three different clubs and all of them against Elland! Between Ash and our regular contributor Steve Whitwam, they’ve appeared in the final on seven occasions between 1987 and 2014 and both were in the winning Golcar side in 2009.

We’ll preview the Sykes Cup final between Hoylandswaine and Moorlands with Andrew Crawshaw giving us the lowdown on who’s umpiring in the big event. In this bumper show - be warned, it’s nearly two hours long! - we also dissect the action from the weekend on another thrilling day of cricket.

We also found time to check up on the weekend league action as the season starts to hit its crucial run-in with Ash giving us some insight into the second team picture in Premiership Two.
