Hot Shot Nasir Fires Mirfield Up To Third - Lower League Matchday #7 Report

Hot Shot Nasir Fires Mirfield Up To Third - Lower League Matchday #7 Report

29 May 2023

Shoaib Nasir shot down Linthwaite with a destructive bowling spell for Mirfield who leapfrogged their opponents into third place. Marsden increased to a nine point advantage at the top of the Conference after they edged out Kirkheaton in a gripping low-scorer.

Linthwaite tumbled from second down to fourth after a Shoaib Nasir bowling performance sank them at Mirfield. Nasir took 4-21 and Shaun Stenhouse 2-36 as Linthwiate were dismissed for 135. Nasir - opening the batting for Mirfield - compiled an unbeaten 65 to complete an eight wicket victory and move them up to third.

Kirkeaton missed a chance to defeat leaders Marsden who squirmed out of their grasp by 7 runs in a low-scoring thriller at Hemplow. Shoaib Rehman’s 4-33 with Sam Atkinson and Priyank Koli collecting two apiece gave them a golden chance with the hosts all out for 137. However Parth Naik took 5-24 and Ben Lowden 3-37 (above) as Kirkheaton collapsed from 82-3 to 130ao.

Elsewhere two contrasting fortunes played out with Cumberworth United hopping into second and Upperthong slumping to the bottom after captain Jordan Greaves scored 59no. Sam Crompton hammered 82 with George Smith helping himself to five wickets in a resounding Cumberworth success. Hassnain Qureshi took three wickets and hit 74no for Emley who brushed past struggling Edgerton & Dalton.

Hoylandswaine 2XI continue to climb after a rocky start to the season and conversely Hall Bower’s early season form deserts them after the former completed an easy win. Adeel Baig took 8-44 in a blistering spell and then Ben Potter crashed 82 from 41 balls to finish a ten wicket win. Elland sank further into the mire with a loss at Thurstonland who moved above them. Long-serving Thurstonland man Tom Broom hit 77 after earlier taking three wickets along with Jack England (3-27).

In the Alliance, a much-changed Scholes 2XI side rose to a narrow win at Golcar. Janhoi Bean-Wilson and Louis Aspeling both made half-centuries for Golcar but contributions throughout the order nipped a win for Scholes. They moved to within four points of leaders Barkisland (who didn’t play), despite Mark Turner’s five wicket haul.

Gary Pemberton’s 5-23 (above) made it back-to-back wins for Delph & Dobcross who bowled bottom side Almondbury 1XI out for 142. Jack Hague hit 45 to complete victory. Skelmanthorpe amassed 304-8 with Brad Geldart (78) top scoring at Denby Dale first team. Adam Dollive and Rob Bartram both took three wickets each as the hosts were bowled out for 160. A Shiv Bhatoa 81 and Dale Winterbottom’s 66 made it a second win for Kirkburton who defeated Thongsbridge with Awais Ahmed (74no) and Ben Earnshaw (67) excelling for Thongsbridge

Michael Rounding (55) and Ant Thorpe (58) both hit half-centuries for Moorlands in a derby at home to Mirfield Parish Cavaliers. George Crowther added an unbeaten 51 and then took 4-12 as Moorlands extended a large lead of 12 points at the top of Alliance Two. Ash Littlewood’s 92 for Cumberworth was in vain at Cartworth Moor 1XI who won after Sajid Hussain (53) helped them put up a 252-8 total. Two Liams; Wood and Ambler both claimed four wickets each for Slaithwaite in a win away at Holmfirth.

In Alliance Three, Edgerton & Dalton lead by a point after they defeated Lascelles Hall by 8 runs at home thanks to Raza Shah’s 45 and Ishtiaq Ahmed’s two wickets. Rashid Nazar (39) top scored for Birkby Rose Hill as they recorded a sixth win of the season at Elland. Joseph Clough hit a century for Holmbridge at home to Meltham. His unbeaten 107 came in 117 balls with 18 fours and a six with Dave Clough supporting him with 84. At Kirkheaton, Joe Mir took six wickets in a success at home to Denby Dale. Dermot Lucid had plundered 50no earlier in the day. Upperthong’s Henry Oakley scored 124no from 115 balls (15 fours, 5 sixes) at home to Marsden for whom Mohammad Hasson hit 95.

Alliance Four leaders Mirfield had Jordan Stenhouse to credit as they defeated Thurstonland. He carried his bat for 51 and took 2-1 to hurdle over Rastrick who lost at home to Cartworth Moor. Nasir Sayed scored 115 from 96 balls for the visitors who won by 12 runs despite Logan Swann’s 63. Almondbury’s Venkatesh Danarekula took 5-20 in a victory at home to Holmbridge. Hairy Walker and Zubair Aslam both hit half-centuries in the hosts’ win.
