Marsden Leap To Top After Bower Stumble - Lower League Matchday #4 Report

Marsden profited from Hall Bower’s slip-up at Kirkheaton to move to the top of the Conference table. Hoylandswaine second’s picked up their first win of the season at home to Upperthong and Linthwaite defended a tiny total at home to Elland.

Priyank Koli (5-27) put the skids under leaders Hall Bower which opened the door for Marsden to leapfrog them at the top of the Conference. Bower were bowled out for 86, however Kirkheaton’s reply was strained when Darrell Sykes and Tom Baxter both took three wickets apiece. Samar Farooq’s composed middle order 20 saw Kirkheaton through on 87-9.

Parth Naik claimed 5-39 with the ball for Marsden and top scored with 30 to help Marsden to their third victory at home to Mirfield at Hemplow. The visitors were bowled out for 112 as Marsden replied with 114-4.

Elland met a sticky end at Linthwaite chasing 82 by being bowled out  themselves for only 41. Former Flockton man Tariq Sajid claimed 5-32 for Elland, however Linthwaite’s Abdallah Manzoor (5-17) and Raheel Akhtar (5-23) turned the tables on the visitors.

Opener Ben Potter scored 50 from only 19 balls as Hoylandswaine Twos hunted down Upperthong’s 103ao. Sol Balbi and Saif Ur-Rehman both claimed three scalps to set up the win. Elsewhere, Muhammad Islam took 5-44 for Edgerton & Dalton but they contrived to lose at Cumberworth chasing 192-9. Josh Kilner (5-26) and George Smith (5-3) did the damage for Cumberworth as Edgerton were dismissed for 41. Thurstonland fell to the bottom of the table after losing at Emley Clarence. Adam Taylor took 4-26 and scored an unbeaten 82 for Emley who successfully overhauled the away sides 163ao for the loss of six wickets.

Barkisland moved to the top of the Alliance by seeing off Kirkburton. Darren Robinson (3-24) and Jamie Sykes (3-25) caused problems for Burton but Shiv Bhatoa claimed 4-29 to make it a nervy chase. Barkisland squeezed home on 115-8. At Delph, Scholes bowled out the hosts for 63, replying with 67-5. Josh Ankers’ 6-18 was the main man for the visitors.

Moorlands are top of Alliance Two thanks to Brad Lay’s 89no as they saw off Linthwaite. Alex Rowden took 4-12 in their meagre 58ao reply

Edgerton & Dalton’s Raza Shah made an exact 50 and claimed 3-23 in their win at home to Meltham in Alliance Three. Meltham were dismissed for 107 in reply to 156-9.

At the top of Alliance Four, Nathan Shaw made 74 for Rastrick who defeated Emley Clarence. Logan Swann (4-16) was in the wickets as Emley were downed for 88.
