Almondbury Wesleyans v Delph & Dobcross - All-rounder Cricket Sykes Cup Semi Final
Venue: Kaye Lane, Almondbury
Date: Sun 8th July
Time: 1:00pm
The first semi-final of the 2018 Sykes Cup is a Premiership v Championship affair as Almondbury Wesleyans play host to Delph & Dobcross.
2016 winners Delph & Dobcross will be hoping on the availability of county cricketer Arron Lilley after they suffered a blow after leading wicket-taker Waqas Maqsood received a call up from Pakistan ahead of their tri-series in Zimbabwe. Maqsood, who has taken 46 wickets in an explosive 13 match spell with Delph has been on excellent form and took 9-23 in their second round win over Rastrick. Lilley is likely to be heavily involved in Lancashire’s T20 campaign which is just getting underway and is unlikely to be available. A call up from the Championship Two table topping 2XI is almost certain with captain Andrew Gleave pondering a batting or bowling option ahead of the match.
Almondbury Wesleyans captain Will Binns will be relishing the opportunity of another top flight scalp on their biggest stage yet. They despatched Honley away from home in the quarter finals and have also disposed of newly promoted Mirfield Parish Cavaliers in the second round of a hugely successful All-rounder Cricket Sykes Cup campaign. Overseas all-rounder Frederick Walker has 30 wickets and 342 runs to his name from his 13 matches played. Alex Taylor, who played a big part of their quarter final success will also have a big role to play if Almondbury Wesleyans feature in the final at Honley.
Almondbury Wesleyans’ Kaye Lane ground is quite compact and has limited parking. Please be considerate with parking if you are attending the semi-final.
