2025 Season Review

26 Sep 2025

The 2025 season proved to be one of the most entertaining in recent memory, with new winners emerging in nearly every competition. Shepley flew the flag for the Huddersfield League by reaching the final of the prestigious Heavy Woollen Cup, eventually falling to Bradford League champions New Farnley. At home, the Premiership title race was gripping right to the wire, with over half of the division fighting to secure safety until the final fortnight of the campaign.

With so many storylines and successes, we’ve picked out five clubs who will look back on 2025 as a season to remember.

Hoylandswaine

Hoylandswaine once again underlined their status as a powerhouse, with both 1XI and 2XI sweeping to league titles. The 1XI clinched their eighth Byrom Shield – their first since 2022 – while the 2XI lifted the Hinchliffe Trophy for the fifth time after not losing a game all year. Cup glory evaded them, but their remarkable consistency across both sides was testament to a squad that combined big signings with cohesion and hunger.

Rastrick

Fresh from promotion in 2024, Rastrick’s 1XI came agonisingly close to completing a fairytale season with the Byrom Shield, finishing just two points behind champions Hoylandswaine after leading the pack for much of the summer. Key to their rise was the devastating bowling duo of Istikhar Hussain and Ghulam Hussain, who shared nearly 80 wickets. Their 2XI also thrived, edging Holmbridge to win Alliance Three thanks to consistent performers like Max Swann, Adam Shaw and Haydn Charlton.

Scholes

Silverware flowed at Chapelgate, with three trophies secured. The 1XI first triumphed in a last-ball thriller against Skelmanthorpe in the T20 Trophy before sealing a first Sykes Cup since 2017, highlighted by a man-of-the-match knock from Benji Birkhead. The success was mirrored by the 2XI, who lifted the Johnson Cup and secured promotion to the Conference under skipper Oliver Pearson.

Armitage Bridge

Two years on from Premiership relegation, Armitage Bridge returned in style by finishing second in the Championship. Their young side grew in confidence as the campaign went on, and while the final weekend’s washout confirmed promotion, their strong second-half surge had already put them in the driving seat. They also continued their dominance in short formats, lifting the T20 Shield for the third consecutive year after a very tight tied game winning on least wickets lost. The 2XI added to the celebrations with promotion in the Alliance, guided by Paul Hamer.

Mirfield Parish Cavaliers

MPC crowned a superb campaign by winning the Championship title and sealing their return to the Premiership. Star contributions from overseas signing Sasitha Palliyaguru and club stalwart Dave Bolt, who both passed 800 runs, underpinned their success. After previous Premiership stints ended in relegation, there’s confidence that Nick Sharp’s men are better placed for 2026. The 2XI also delivered, capturing the Earnshaw Cup at Birkby Rose Hill to follow up last year’s Schweppes Award.
