The Executive have been working over recent weeks on the continuation and further improvement of the Umpire’s Pool arrangements for 2020 and how best to support clubs now that they are required to provide Umpires for all 2nd XI games, since the rule change under L.9.3.1. was voted in at the AGM.
It has now been agreed to appoint Stephen Sykes as Club & Pool Umpire Liaison Secretary.
Stephen will work with all clubs to support the Club Umpire process, the Club umpires themselves, and will have responsibility for the Umpires Pool. Stephen will be a key link for weekly deployment of UA panel umpires who are not allocated a 1st XI fixture, Pool umpires who are available on a more occasional basis, and with all Clubs who may request support from the Pool to provide umpires to fill vacancies as they arise.
This important appointment is effective immediately, so that Stephen can begin his work, amongst other things, to recruit and build up Pool umpire numbers in advance of the season commencing in two months time.
