Hot Weather Statement

Hot Weather Statement

21 Jun 2025

In view of the current extremely hot weather, the League Executive are advising all clubs to encourage their players, officials and spectators to make appropriate provisions to help keep themselves safe from the potentially excessive heat during this Saturday's matches.

For players this advice should include:

  • ensuring they have sun protection and fluids available on arrival at the game.
  • the wearing of caps/hats.
  • regular application of sun-protection.
  • regular hydration, including batters taking drinks between overs at the discretion of the umpires.
  • We also ask that in all games there should be at least 2 drinks breaks, to allow for rehydration. Please include scorers in such arrangements.

Advice for Umpires:

Umpires should not put themselves at risk and should prepare for the game accordingly.
They should ensure that they keep themselves hydrated and use stoppages in play to take comfort breaks when required.

The time for bowling the appropriate number of overs will remain the same, but umpires should please note that the Rule L8.14.2 refers to "actual playing time", and the time taken for bowling overs should NOT include any extra stoppages necessitated by the weather conditions. Where appropriate umpires should show discretion where they feel that the time taken to bowl the overs is significantly effected by the extreme hot weather.
