Denby Dale piled on what’s sure to be their biggest ever total at home to hapless Elland and Cumberworth defeated Linthwaite for the second time in a week to book their round two spot in the Oddfellows Cup. 15 year old Harry Kilner enjoyed a debut to remember after he snared a wicket with his first ever ball in first team cricket as Upperthong also marched into the next round.
Shellshocked Elland were ruthlessly destroyed by a destructive Denby Dale batting display who compiled what is expected to be their largest ever innings total. Recovering from 35-2, Liam Greig finished on an unbeaten 149 in an innings where he scored 18 fours and 7 sixes. However his batting partner Malindu Maduranga battered that by setting about Elland’s bowlers to more brutal effect, bludgeoning 156 runs from 95 balls (24 fours and 6 sixes) as they combined for a mammoth 397-5. Maduranga also took 3-18 in Elland’s 131ao reply.
Upperthong’s Harry Kilner and Vinnie Jayasuriya took five wickets between them to dismiss Hall Bower for 142. Kilner (2-37) took a scalp with his first ever ball and Jayasuriya (3-17) cleaned up the tail to leave ‘Thong with a relatively simple chase. Ben Charlesworth (24) anchored the middle order and Sam Hobson (24no) kept his cool to nudge their side over the line on 146-8.

Josh Kilner claimed 4-40 for Cumberworth who defeated Conference high-flyers Linthwaite for the second time in a week with a seven wicket victory.
