Upperthong's 15-year-old bowler Harry Kilner took a wicket with his first ever ball in first team cricket on Sunday with an inswinger that Hall Bower’s Max Berry edged behind to wicketkeeper Chris Kessie - coincidentally Harry's maths teacher!
Kilner, taking a break from his GCSE studies, then put Bower's pro Ali Rafiq, averaging 37 this season, through a thorough examination before bowling him out. Upperthong went on to beat visiting Bower in the Oddfellows Cup First Round tie.
The talented youngster, who is in the Joe Lumb squad, had been promoted to the first team after bowling six maidens from his eight overs on Saturday, taking three wickets for just 4 runs as Upperthong seconds won at Denby Dale. Kilner averaged just 6.44 for the second team this season with nearly 60 wickets since his senior debut in 2021.
