Jamie Harrison: The Voice Behind the Huddersfield Premier Cricket League

Jamie Harrison: The Voice Behind the Huddersfield Premier Cricket League

9 Oct 2025

In the world of grassroots cricket, many of the most vital contributions happen quietly, behind the scenes. One such example is the role of the Media & Press Secretary for the Huddersfield Premier Cricket League — a position held for the past decade by Jamie Harrison, whose work has brought the league’s stories, results, and spirit to life for players, clubs, and followers alike.

Jamie’s journey into this role didn’t begin in media, but in a lifelong love of cricket. Growing up around the game, he first found his place in the scorebox, carefully tracking runs and wickets — a passion inspired by his father’s deep involvement in local cricket. That early connection laid the foundation for what would later become a pivotal role in shaping how the league communicates and connects with its community.

His playing career, however, was brief but memorable. In 1992, Jamie was unexpectedly called up to play for Delph & Dobcross’s second XI when the team was short of players. After fielding for 45 overs at third man — without getting a chance to bat — he took the experience in good humour and decided his strengths lay elsewhere.

Drawing on his background in marketing and his enthusiasm for the game, Jamie helped modernise the Huddersfield Premier Cricket League’s media presence. He was instrumental in developing the league’s website and introducing online systems to share news, match results, and features more effectively.

A passionate advocate of podcasting, Jamie also launched the “Castle Hill Cricket Chat”, the league’s official podcast, which he presented alongside a range of contributors — further broadening the league’s engagement with players, fans and the cricket community of Huddersfield.

After ten years of dedicated service, Jamie has stepped down from his role due to growing professional and family commitments. The league is now focused on ensuring a smooth transition and building upon the strong foundation he has laid.

The Huddersfield Premier Cricket League recognises the importance of continuing to evolve — keeping pace with changes in web platforms, social media algorithms, podcasting, video content, and data integration — while maintaining engagement in an increasingly crowded media landscape. Thanks to Jamie’s work, the league is well placed to embrace these challenges, with plans to strengthen its digital strategy and expand its media offerings.

Jamie Harrison’s contribution is a shining example of how grassroots sport thrives on the dedication of volunteers who combine passion, expertise, and perseverance. As Media & Press Secretary, he has played a vital role in ensuring the Huddersfield Premier Cricket League remains visible, accessible, and connected to its community.

The league extends its heartfelt thanks to Jamie for his hard work, enthusiasm, and knowledge — and hopes he will continue to remain involved with the HPCL in the years ahead.
