The award for the Best Overseas Player in 2023 has been won by Delph & Dobcross all-rounder Nayyar Abbas. The first time the award has gone to a player outside the top division since 2018 won by Clayton West’s Phil Tunnicliffe.
Abbas has been a driving force behind Delph’s charge back to the Premiership at the first attempt, scoring over 900 runs in all competitions this term. However, it is his bowling which he is most known for having followed up his 64 wickets in the Premiership last season with an impressive 61 this year (with one match to play).
Uniquely, Abbas is a left-arm spinner and arrived at Delph last season following many years playing for clubs in the midlands, notably for Knypersley CC between 2010 and 2019. Although he was unable to prevent Delph from slipping to relegation in his first season, he was a key member of their T20 Trophy winning team and made an instant impact amongst his teammates.
The popular player, who rarely plays without a smile, will be presented with his award before Delph’s fixture at Golcar on Saturday. The league would like to congratulate Nayyar on his award.
