Asher Century boosts Cumberworth - Lower League Matchday #5 Report

17 May 2023

Cumberworth’s Asher Bagadam scored a magnificent century to help his side edge out Linthwaite in an excellent match on the rearranged opening games fixture day. Bagadam scored a breezy 106 from 108 balls as he helped his side to 250-9. He then tucked into Linthwaite’s batting taking 2-22 with the ball as the visitors made 234-9 in reply. Zahed Ahmed scored 74 for Linthwaite but Bagadam’s efforts with the bat made sure of Cumberworth’s success

Matty Butters scored 50 and Ben Lowden 42 as Marsden took care of Emley in convincing style. Parth Naik added 47 in Marsden’s 211-7 total. Amruth Chappidi took 4-34 for the Conference toppers.

Thurstonland’s Stanley Day took 4-10 against Hoylandswaine seconds to get off the bottom of the table with a huge ten wicket success. Asad Mahmood’s 66no for Kirkheaton at third-bottom Elland gave them their third win and Hall Bower ran foul of a DLS result at Mirfield where Shoab Nasir scored 46 and claimed a wicket for the hosts.

It wasn’t a great afternoon for Upperthong who remain rooted to the bottom as brothers Waleed Islam (55) and Muhammad Islam (4-30) for Edgerton & Dalton proved too strong for them.

In the Alliance, Barkisland’s Darren Robinson claimed 8-23 at home to Golcar. Robinson went on to score 46 and Matthew Steers 48 as they defended their 178ao to win by 76 runs. Gary Pemberton took 4-20 as Thongsbridge were bowled out for just 45 at Delph & Dobcross.

Matthew Brooke hit 56 for Honley 2XI and Almondbury 1XI’s overseas Bernard Snyman scored 67 in reply but it was the second team who held on for a 21 run win. Atif Kamran hit an unbeaten 71 for Denby Dale 1XI and teammate Malindu Maduranga joined him with 65no as they overhauled Armitage Bridge 2XI’s 165ao. Kamran earlier claimed 3-37 for Denby Dale.

Louis Sykes scored 102 for Skelmanthorpe who couldn’t be separated with Scholes. Josh Megson (57) anchored the first innings and Scholes skipper Eden Pearson took 4-55. However Skelmanthorpe keeper Brad Geldart took a superb catch to tie the match at Chapelgate.

In Alliance Two, Oliver Rounding scored 50 for first-placed Moorlands to see off Holmfirth. Sajad Mohammad took 6-14 for Hall Bower as they defeated Broad Oak.

Elsewhere, Anwan scored a round 50 for Linthwaite and then took 3-37 as Linthwaite beat Cumberworth.

In Alliance Three, Raj Singh claimed 5-9 to edge a terrific match at home to Upperthong. 79ao was successfully defended with Upperthong agonisingly falling just two runs short. Callum Taylor scored a century for Lascelles Hall. He hit 107no from 155 balls whereas Sahail Rana took 5-22 for second-placed Birkby Rose Hill at Meltham.

In Alliance Four, Mirfield cut Rastrick’s lead to the top to one point with a win at the leaders. Captain Phil Scouller scored 48 and Emma Bolt finished off the win with 3-16.
