Arnold Darlington – From Player to Umpire, A Lifetime in Cricket

12th January 1935 – 18th October 2026

Huddersfield Premier Cricket League is sad to hear of the death of Arnold Darlington, who passed away on 18th October 2026, aged 91.

From a young age, Arnold had a real passion for sport, playing football, cricket and table tennis to a high standard. He thoroughly enjoyed the competition, camaraderie and friendships that sport brought into his life.

Cricket became a particularly important part of his story. His career began at Broad Oak CC before he went on to play for Lockwood CC, proudly holding roles as both Captain and Wicket keeper. When his playing days came to an end, his enthusiasm for cricket never faded as he took up umpiring in the Huddersfield League, where most people will remember him for his days out on the square. He particularly enjoyed being part of the Joe Lumb set-up alongside his long-time friend, Geoff Boyes, as well as umpiring for Yorkshire Schools. The friendships he made and the years he devoted to cricket remained a valued part of his life, often recalling and sharing memories from his cricket days with those around him.

Arnold was a much loved Dad, Grandad, Great-Grandad and Father-in-law. He will always hold a special place in the hearts of his family and friends, and his loss will be felt deeply by all who knew and loved him.

If anyone would wish to pay their respects following Arnold’s passing, Mandy his daughter requests that you please make donations in his memory to a valued charity of your choice, and welcomes any messages you may wish to share to mandytaylor62@outlook.com
