The Huddersfield Cricket League regrets to announce that the scheduled opening fixtures, set for Saturday, April 20th, will not proceed as planned. This decision comes as a result of the unseasonably cold and wet spring weather, which has significantly impeded the preparations of our ground staff across the league. A set of Sunday 3XI fixtures on 21st April are similarly slated for postponement.
With most grounds experiencing delays in their maintenance schedules, the league executive committee is diligently monitoring the situation. Drawing upon the expertise of two committee members who also serve as groundsmen, along with regular consultations with grounds personnel league-wide by the Chairman and General Secretary, every effort is being made to assess the feasibility of proceeding with the fixtures.
A final decision regarding the fate of the week one fixtures, whether they will be cancelled entirely or rescheduled later in the season, will be reached at the Executive meeting scheduled for May 1st. Additionally, a decision regarding the second week's fixtures, slated for April 27th and 28th, will be made in due course, pending further assessment of ground conditions.
The league appreciates the understanding and patience of all clubs and participants during this challenging period. Further updates will be provided following the Executive meeting on May 1st.
