A meeting has been organised by the League on the eve of the upcoming 2023 season to brief Captains and key club officers on new arrangements where 1st XI Captains are asked to assess Umpires, and Umpires to mark pitch quality and the ‘Fair Play’ displayed by teams and Captains, as well as revised General Conduct Regulations which govern disciplinary processes and sanctions.
One of the main changes in the new season will be the adoption of a full marking system which will be used by both captains and umpires to assess performance, pitches/outfields and fair play. The adoption of this system falls in line with ECB’s requirements of becoming a Premier League.
All details of the new processes will be explained and ECB’s expert David Ward who runs the special software programme named Who’s the Umpire that is used to submit and manage all marks will demonstrate the systems and answer any questions, comments or concerns that may arise.
The meeting, which has been set for Thursday 6th April 2023 at 7pm (Venue: Elland CC’s Baines Hall), will go through in detail what is expected from players and officials and how everything will be submitted via ECB’s portal.
Umpires are being briefed at a separate meeting taking place before the season begins on 15th April
All clubs 1st XI Captains and Secretaries are expected to attend and are not required to notify the League first (You just need to turn up five or ten minutes before the start). If Club Captains or Secretaries are not able to attend, an elected vice-captain or club representative may stand in on this occasion. However it is strongly recommended both captains and secretaries prioritise the attendance of this meeting if they can.
A summary and overview will be available shortly after the event.
