“He’s going to be sorely missed by a lot of people. Such a nice chap... he loved the game and league in particular and he served it so well.”
The league was very recently rocked after the passing away of one of its most beloved figureheads, Roger France. The president passed away this week after a prolonged battle with cancer and leaves behind his loyal wife Judith. We on the podcast like to look at cricket through the lens of the lighthearted, but we feel it’s our duty to look back and reflect on Rogers influence within our game. He, of course, was irreplaceable in some ways and will be deeply missed by all of us on the podcast, as well as the wider cricketing community and we hope we can delivery something suitable to remember him by.
On the field, it was an incredibly packed weekend of cricket which will take some unpicking but we’ll give it our best shot. Thongsbridge went from strength to strength in the Premiership, yet showed they have a vulnerable Achilles heel in the Sykes Cup after Skelmanthorpe overwhelmingly defeated them to be the only side from outside the top division to progress into the Quarter Final. It was also Oddfellows Cup first round and Birkby Rose Hill found another gear to dispose of Lascelles Hall a division above. These matches, along with Mystic Andrew’s choice picks went under our microscopes to look at in more detail.
