CCHC Pod #36 - Paul Winrow (Almondbury Wes)

CCHC Pod #36 - Paul Winrow (Almondbury Wes)

10 Mar 2023

The Official League Podcast, Castle Hill Cricket Chat made a return with a guest, held in high esteem for his exploits in league cricket with the bat where he has made over 22,000 career runs. Paul Winrow went through his outstanding career with spells in the Bradford League, Central Lancashire League and the now defunct Pennine League but it was with Huddersfield Cricket League clubs Barkisland, Elland and Shelley where he played the most.

Paul talks about being a late developer around his ‘home’ club Barkisland, before cutting his teeth in tough dressing rooms at Cleckheaton and East Brierley. Listen in as he reflects on a scintillating title win with Woodlands and helping take Barkisland to Sykes Cup glory in 2008. Injuries may have had an effect on his later career but he had plenty to say about his spells at Elland and Shelley, as well as his current club Almondbury Wesleyans where he hopes to wind down his career.

Elsewhere, the guys mused upon typical pre-season activity such as winter nets, umpire refresher courses and of course a batch of the latest transfers. Meanwhile Jamie uncovered a shocking miscarriage of justice which had been a stain on our game since 1983.
