In anticipation to the 2023 season the Castle Hill Cricket Chat podcast elected to interview a swath of pumped up Premiership skippers relishing the season ahead. This episode features Kirkburton’s captain Jonathan Butterfield.
Jonny has been heading up first team operations at Riley Lane for three seasons, if you include the Covid-affected T30 year. In that time he’s helped mould Kirkburton from relegation threatened candidates to a tough hard-to-beat outfit.
The former Clayton West and Honley man gave us an insight into how his team has been performing for him and where he sees improvements. Plus they’ve welcomed several new faces into their lineup for 2023 and who will be key players for them in the upcoming campaign. Kirkburton will face Almondbury Wesleyans at home in the opening fixture so he reflected on head-to-head matches with them in the past few years.
