Despite a rule change carried forward to the 2020 season where teams in the traditional 2XI competitions are expected to supply both home and away umpires, the league is still anticipating a requirement for an Umpires Pool to help out those unable to provide.
The league acknowledges that the Pool offers a unique opportunity to those that do not wish to commit to joining the Umpires Association, but still wish to be involved in officiating at cricket matches, and will be only utilised when teams cannot fulfil their obligations to provide a Club Umpire at a home or away fixture.
The process would work in a similar way to last season which saw it become a huge success with the vast majority of matches staffed by an appropriate pool umpire.
We will soon be recruiting for the Pool, so if you are interested yourself - even if you can only officiate in one match; or know someone else who may be interested - it could be an ex-player, an umpire who cannot commit to a full season or just someone willing to help out who enjoys the wonderful game of cricket, please get in touch via the contact form.
If required, the league can even help out with subsidised umpires jackets for any members of the Pool and informal training will be offered if requested.
More information on contact details and phone numbers etc. will be published in due course.
