Congratulations to Andy Fortis of Moorlands, who has once again been awarded the Tom Walker Trophy for Groundsman of the Year in 2024. This marks yet another accolade for Fortis, whose work on the playing surface at Moorlands has been consistently praised by umpires throughout the season.
The award, which is based on umpire ratings of the playing conditions and input from the league’s executive committee, recognises the exceptional quality of the pitches that have hosted top-tier cricket throughout the year. Moorlands’ first team won the Premiership title, and their 2XI took the Alliance title, a testament to the superb field that Andy Fortis and his team have prepared.
The Tom Walker Trophy is sponsored by Battersby’s Grounds Supplies, who have awarded Fortis a £500 voucher for his outstanding efforts. Mirfield Parish Cavaliers were named runners-up and will receive a £100 voucher for their groundsman’s achievements.
The official trophy presentation will take place at the 2024 Awards Evening on 29th November at Baines Hall.
