Life is very busy for many people these days, and leisure time is very precious, and we believe this has had its impact on the current difficulties we are experiencing in recruiting full time umpires.
In any form of organisation/business when they experience difficulties in staffing numbers they revert to a temporary pool of capable people and the DHCL are looking to set up something similar to cover any umpiring shortfalls this season, while we work on the bigger picture.
So, the question is, would like to be added to our "Temporary Umpiring Pool"?
This "Temps Pool" will be administered by the League Administration Secretary Chris Ridler and not by the Umpires Association.
Anyone who wishes to join the "Temps Pool" would have no obligation to stand in any particular match, but if free to umpire on any weekend they would simply email or call in and if there was a game without an appointed umpire they could be appointed to a game.
Even if that is just one match a season it could make a real difference! You must know someone? It could be an Ex-Player , an umpires who cannot commit to a full season or just someone willing to help out who enjoys the wonderful game of cricket.
If needs be we can even help out with umpiring kit for any members of the "Temps Pool" and any informal training required.
