The Huddersfield Cricket League is proud to announce the winners of its top individual awards for the 2024 season, recognising standout campaign performances across the divisions.
Jon Rudge of Moorlands has been awarded the Tom Oldham Trophy for Best Premiership Bowler for the second consecutive time. Opening bowler Rudge had an outstanding season yet again, taking 57 wickets at an impressive average of 12.21, even improving on last year’s performance. His consistency was crucial in helping Moorlands secure yet another Premiership title.
Matty Weston, Barkisland’s opening batsman, capped off a remarkable season by adding the Tom Oldham Award for Best Premiership Batsman to his Young Player of the Year accolade. Weston scored 907 runs in the Premiership at an average of 60.47, marking the first time he’s claimed this prestigious award, following Jack Lees' (Skelmanthorpe) win last year.
Bradley Birkhead of Scholes took home the Cyril Thorpe Cup for Best Wicketkeeper. His 30 dismissals played a key role in Scholes' second-place finish in the Premiership, narrowly missing out on the title to Moorlands.
Will Hughes, in his first season at Shepley after moving from Green Moor in 2023, has won the Clifford Sykes Cup for Most Premiership Catches. Hughes finished the season with 17 catches, demonstrating his excellent fielding skills.
These awards will be presented at the 2024 Awards Evening on 29th November at Baines Hall.
