This week the Huddersfield Cricket League’s exhibition match against a select MCC team takes place at Armitage Bridge cricket club. This fixture, first played in 2016 and has since become an annual affair, is a fine opportunity for the cream of our league’s youngsters to pit their skills against an established MCC XI containing current and former players who are members.
The match starts at 11:30pm this coming Wednesday 11th August. The MCC traditionally bat first and play unlimited overs until they are either all out or declare. At 5:30pm, there is a further twenty overs or one hours play (whichever is latest). Armitage Bridge cricket club will be open for refreshments during the afternoon.
Lepton Highlanders' Jacob Mulhall will lead this season’s Huddersfield Cricket U21 team. Jacob has enjoyed an excellent season so far leading his club to the cusp of an instant promotion back to the Championship with the opening batsman scoring over 500 runs. The team includes further batting power from Thongsbridge’s Kai Grieg and South African Ben Coveley (Armitage Bridge) plus plenty of all-round talent from Lancashire’s Xander Selby (Delph & Dobcross), Ben Balmforth (Thongsbridge), Nathan Kenworthy (Almondbury Wes), Archie Greaves and Tom Sanders (both Denby). Pacey Golcar bowler Jay Cyrus is likely to open the bowling and Honley's Charlie Jakeman has been drafted in for a further bowling option with Charlie's teammate, continually impressive Ben Harris keeping wicket.
Entry is free.
