Winnard Wins It For Oak Who Knock Out Holders - Paddock Shield QF Review

13 Jun 2023

Josh Winnard’s half-century provided a heavy contribution as Paddock Shield holders Moorlands were felled by just three runs at Broad Oak. Batting first, Winnard’s beautifully struck 73 gave Broad Oak a strong foundation to take the game to visiting Moorlands who were yet to be defeated in 2023. Captain Jevan Peackock added 50 and cameos by Luke Roberts (42no) and Lewis Williams all did their part in Oak’s 247-5. Moorlands’ Michael Rounding (35) and Ant Thorpe (36) laid steady groundwork and Adam Roberts’ 61 looked to have paved their way through. Rain forced a DL target of 224 and Oak held their nerve with Ismail Ahmed and Nathan Wadsworth both claiming two wickets.

Jack Seddon thumped a rapid fifty opening the batting for Hoylandswaine, as they swept aside Scholes at Chapelgate. Chasing 151, Seddon launched 8 fours and 2 sixes in just 28 balls. Matt Higgins made a more cultured 48no as Hoylandswaine replied with 154-3.

Kirkburton made light work of Alliance Three opposition Birkby Rose Hill after bowling them out for 123. Tom Coultard took 4-13 and Jamie Walker 3-34 to set up the low chase. Captain Matthew Crookes finished unbeaten on 56 and Javaid Ahmad scored 41 to complete their nine wicket victory.

One day after battling out a thrilling tie, Shepley won in more comfortable conditions at home to Linthwaite. Jack Dyson picked up three wickets and conceded just two runs in 5.4 overs to strangle the visitors, who were bowled out for only 94. Shepley made heavier weather than they perhaps ought to have but keeper Will Mott’s 29no calmly guided them home on 97-6.
