Two teams with a rich 2XI heritage will lock horns in the opening round of the revamped Fired Up Corporation Paddock Shield come May. Honley - who have lifted the second team shield on seven occasions including four consecutive victories at the turn of the century - have been drawn away at Scholes whose seventh success in the Paddock Shield came back in 2011.
Current holders Hoylandswaine will be the team to beat in the Paddock Shield and have a short trip away to Cumberworth United as they get their defence underway. Record Paddock Shield holders Broad Oak who suffered relegation from Premiership Two in 2019 should be raring to go at home to Mirfield Parish Cavaliers. Oak have won the Paddock Shield 13 times and will be keen to add to that handsome tally as they entertain Parish who were avoided relegation from Championship Two during the last full season.
Kirkburton are the most recent successful club who have claimed the trophy on back to back successes in 2017 and 2018. They are first up away to Almondbury Wesleyans; a reverse fixture to both sides’ 1XI matches.
There will be all-Premiership Two action at Barkisland as they take on visiting Armitage Bridge. Delph & Dobcross who ended an impressive 2019 campaign in third place welcome Skelmanthorpe who slipped down from Premiership Two at the same time.
