HRH Prince Philip Statement

HRH Prince Philip Statement

12 Apr 2021

Following the passing of HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh on 9th April, the Huddersfield Cricket League have announced plans for a minute's silence to take place during the opening days fixtures on Saturday 17th April; simultaneously at the same time that the Royal funeral commences.

We acknowledge and understand the ECB’s recommendation of pausing all domestic club cricket matches for a period of one hour between 3:00pm and 4:00pm to coincide with the funeral, along with a minutes silence to pay respects at 3:00pm. After considering this proposal deeply and carefully and especially taking into consideration the current restrictive environment in which we are operating, we consider a one hour break in play impractical at best. This is mirrored by the YCB’s guidance following the ECB announcement.

The league do recognise the importance of the occasion and have taken the decision to observe a minutes silence for the Duke of Edinburgh at 3:00pm where play will stop when practically possible to do so. The umpires in charge of each match will be responsible for the normal protocols surrounding the organisation of the one minute silence, and where possible all participating players are present on the field of play during its observance.

We thank all clubs and players in advance for their cooperation.
