Sykes Cup / Paddock Shield Semi Final Draw

Sykes Cup / Paddock Shield Semi Final Draw

21 Jun 2018

Almondbury Wesleyans, the remaining Championship side in the All-Rounder Cricket Sykes Cup, have been rewarded with a home draw against 2016 winners Delph & Dobcross. Wesleyans, winners over Premiership team Honley in the last round make an appearance at the semi-final stage for the first time in their history representing inspiring progress at the Kaye Lane - they were a Huddersfield Central League club as recently as 2012. Will Binns' side are the first Championship club to reach this stage of the competition since Cawthorne in 2011. Delph & Dobcross, two times Sykes Cup winners will travel to Kaye Lane having already knocked out Almondbury (1st round), Rastrick (2nd round) and Moorlands (quarter final), trying to avoid being a third Premiership scalp for Wesleyans.

The other Sykes Cup tie pits league leaders Hoylandswaine at home to Shepley. SP Singh's Hoylandswaine side have reached their sixth semi-final in seven seasons and are two-time winners; 2013 and 2014. Singh's table-topping side have been handed home advantage having despatched Emley Clarence (round 1), Skelmanthorpe (round 2) and Barkisland (quarter final). Greg Wood takes his dangerous Shepley side to Swaine, hoping to reach their first final since 2016 having beaten Meltham (round 1), Elland (round 2) and Clayton West (quarter final).

In the Fired-Up Corporation Paddock Shield, holders Kirkburton will face Hoylandswaine in mouth-watering clash between two of the strongest 2XI teams left in the competition. James Newsome's Kirkburton team have been rewarded with a home tie after knocking out Honley at the quarter final stage. Hoylandswaine overcame Skelmanthorpe to set up the tie. In the other semi-final, Shepley from Championship Two will face down another top flight team at Broad Oak in a bid to lift the shield for the first time since 2013, aptly against Broad Oak.
