Thongsbridge's Balmforth Is Top Young Gun

Thongsbridge's Balmforth Is Top Young Gun

14 Oct 2021

Ben Balmforth of Thongsbridge has been credited as being the most promising young cricketer of the year and wins the Reg Haigh Trophy; an honour that has been bestowed on the league’s finest young talent since 1978.

The 21-year old fast bowler has emerged as one the area’s big standout talent and this season was his most powerful yet, especially with the ball. The right-arm bowler took a total of 50 wickets in league and cup this season, also chipping in with 276 runs as his all-round abilities continue to impress.

Balmforth moved to his current club from Upperthong in 2018 where he took 87 wickets over two seasons at Conference level before he made the step up. At Thongsbridge he claimed 43 wickets in 2018 and 31 in 2019 where he carries a cumulative average of around 20.00.

Congratulations to Ben from all at the Huddersfield Cricket League. Ben will be presented with his trophy at a special awards gala at Elland Cricket Club on Thursday 25th November.
