2014 League Dinner

The Annual League Dinner will take place on Friday 14th November 2014 at Cedar Court Hotel, Huddersfield (6.15pm for 6.45pm). The guest speaker is Peter Bowler, an ex-county cricket with Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Somerset who now works in the legal profession, and is also regarded as an accomplished after dinner speaker. He will be supported by Jamie Sutherland, a comedian from Liverpool. The cost of tickets will be held at last season's price of £32.50, and clubs are reminded that in line with this season's rule change, all member clubs are committed to the purchase of a minimum of four tickets for the Annual Dinner.

Please contact Norman Clee on ncleedhcl@btinternet.com for more details and for ticket purchases.

Ramadan - Cricket tea rules

From 28th June 2014 the month of Ramadan will commence, and will last for 29-30 days. For those of Muslim faith this involves, amongst other things, refraining from consuming food and drinking liquids, from dawn until sunset. As a consequence of this there will be potential implications with regard to Rule L8(n) "the visiting team shall purchase no less than five teas, or alternatively contribute the total selling price" for teams comprising of all or mainly all Muslim players.

During the month of Ramadan, we ask that Rule L8(n) be relaxed for any visiting teams comprising of all or mainly all Muslim players, and that those visiting teams be allowed to purchase less than the specified minimum number of five teas.

We also ask that in order to be allowed the relaxation of Rule L8(n), that such visiting teams inform the Secretary of the home club of the number of teas required, no less than 72 hours before the start of play. Failure to do so will mean that Rule L8(n) may be enforced by the home club.

During the month of Ramadan it is also expected that any host clubs with a predominantly Muslim membership will provide teas for visiting teams and also free teas for the umpires and visiting scorer, at all matches.

A certificate is issued for attendance and this certificate is valid for 3 years. After 3 yrs a CWO must attend a Safe Hands Refresher course. These courses have been re-designed over the last year or so and have not been available during the re-training of the trainers. Trainers have now gradually become available and DrakesHCL/SellersHJCL welfare officer Roger Peaker is in the process of arranging both a New and a Refresher course. The New course is planned for May and the Refresher will take place in the Autumn.
