14th Nov 2017
The 125th Anniversary dinner and prize presentation takes place this coming Friday 17th November so as befitting such a landmark event we have a thoroughly entertaining evening planned.
The dinner is a 6:15pm meet for a prompt 6:45pm start where a four course seasonal dinner will be served. This will be followed by the 2017 season award presentation which takes place straight after the dinner, followed by a multi-prize raffle.
Further entertainment is scheduled first by ex England test cricketer Shaun Udal and excellent comedian Lester Crabtree. An off spin bowler and lower-middle order batsman, Shaun Udal played his first game for his home county Hampshire as a 20 year old in 1989. In 1994 he was drafted into England’s ODI squad, against the touring New Zealand side making his international debut alongside Darren Gough. In that game he dismissed Adam Parore and Ken Rutherford, and consistent performances against South Africa at the end of the summer gained him a place on the 1994-95 Ashes tour. However, injury forced him home early, and he had to wait until November 2005 before finally making his Test debut in Pakistan at the age of 36. Initially overlooked for England's subsequent Tests in India, he was called up for the final match at Mumbai, and stunned India's batsmen with a haul of 4 for 14, including Sachin Tendulkar, as England squared the series. At the end of the 2010 Shaun retired
from 1st Class cricket having taken over 800 wickets and scored almost 8,000 runs, and he is now becoming a very popular speaker on the after dinner circuit.
Lester Crabtree is an outstanding comedian with his own unique, cheeky, yet attacking style of humour. Since his early days as a vocalist and impressionist Lester has undoubtedly emerged as one of the most sought after comedians on the UK comedy and after dinner circuit. He is a firm favourite at home and abroad and has performed in all types of venues including Sporting Dinners, Comedy Clubs, Theatre, Television and Radio. At Sportsman's Dinners Lester has worked with some great speakers including Mike Tyson, Frank Bruno, Alan Shearer, Ricky Hatton, Paul Merson and Jimmy Greaves to name but a few. Lester has also had numerous TV and radio appearances including Ant and Dec’s Saturday night take away, ITV'S Out from the crowd and Sky TV's Just for laughs, and we look forward to him performing at our 125th Anniversary Dinner & Prize Presentation this year.
We look forward to seeing many of our friends throughout the league and anticipate an evening of excellent entertainment. The dress code for the evening is lounge suit and tie.
