CCHC Pod #18 - Max Morley (Hoylandswaine)

CCHC Pod #18 - Max Morley (Hoylandswaine)

18 Aug 2021
“I just felt that if I had that opportunity to play that game then things might have been different. I think I felt bitter for the 12 months after it but, listen, everything happens for a reason. It is what it is”

This week was one of the most dramatic climaxes to a final seen in recent years. Hoylandswaine, undoubtedly searing hot favourites to retain the trophy were usurped by Moorlands, the closest pretenders to their throne. Our guest on this episode is actually a player who was on the losing side on that electrifying flagship occasion. Max Morley, currently enjoying his best season ever at club level having taken over 50 wickets in 2021.

The 28 year old left arm spinner has a County cricket background after he came to the attention of Durham when at youth level. However he came to the attention of a much wider audience when he made it onto the hit TV show ‘Love Island’ in 2015. What followed then was a kaleidoscope of events leading to a smorgasbord of opportunity. But, you’d not meet a more down-to-earth, likable and laid back guy who comfortably takes the unbalanced world of the celebrity in his stride. Max reflects on his short, but eventful career and gives an insight into what his experiences were like during the goldfish bowl-like life in front of the cameras. Since then he went back playing with his mates at Holmfirth, enjoyed a spell at Premiership side Honley and finally at reigning champions Hoylandswaine.

We also reflected on that gripping Sykes Cup Final, a just-as-significant Paddock Shield win for Skelmanthorpe - ironically also against Hoylandswaine - and finally we deconstructed the developments in the top three divisions. To kick it all off in a literary sense, we discussed feisty encounters in ‘The Opener’.
