The league’s most promising young player award - the Reg Haigh Trophy - has been given to Honley wicket keeper Ben Harris. The young gloveman has been an integral part to Honley’s recent success with sharp work behind the stumps at Far End Lane.
Ben’s development has been impressive since breaking into senior cricket five years ago with the 17-year old winning best wicket keeping awards twice for Premiership Two (in 2018) and the Premiership last season. 2022 was his best season so far, claiming 51 victims in total with 33 catches and 18 stumpings.
The last wicketkeeper to win the Reg Haigh trophy was Matthew Butters (Meltham) in 2022, who currently plays for Broad Oak after many years at Marsden. Previously, Alan Mynett, formerly of Hoylandswaine, won it in 1988 during his time at Kirkburton.
Ben will be presented with his accolade at the awards evening at Elland Cricket Club on Thursday 17th November. Congratulations to Ben and all at Honley who has played a part in his development.
