The Johnny Hunter Rose Bowl awards have been announced, recognising two outstanding individual performances in the 2024 season for both 1XI and 2XI’s.
The 1XI award goes to Ali Raza of Marsden CC, who delivered a heroic tail-end batting performance in a match against Lascelles Hall on 8th June. Chasing a target of 143, Marsden found themselves at a precarious 81-8 before Ali Raza entered at number 10. With the score then at 85-9, Raza steered his side to an improbable victory by scoring a remarkable 52 not out from just 35 balls, as the last-wicket pair added 61 runs to secure the win.
The 2XI award is claimed by Raza Shah of Edgerton & Dalton 2XI, following a brilliant all-round display against Meltham 2XI on 24th August. Batting at number 5, Raza Shah smashed 64 runs from just 38 balls, featuring five sixes and five fours. He followed this up by taking seven wickets for 39 runs, helping his team to bowl out Meltham and secure a resounding victory.
Both players will be honoured at the annual awards evening on Friday, 29th November, where they will officially receive their trophies.
