Lambert and Gledhill Honoured with Lady Sykes Candlesticks Awards

Lambert and Gledhill Honoured with Lady Sykes Candlesticks Awards

20 Oct 2024

Two of the Huddersfield Cricket League’s most prestigious individual awards, the Lady Sykes Candlesticks, have been awarded to Matthew Lambert of Rastrick and Martin Gledhill of Holmbridge for their exceptional contributions to their clubs and the game. Nominated by their respective clubs, both players have shown long-standing dedication both on and off the field.

Matthew Lambert has been the embodiment of a ‘one-club man,’ spending his whole career at Rastrick, where he captained the first team from the 2000s and played a pivotal role in the club’s success, including their Championship title last season. His leadership and commitment have laid the foundations for much of Rastrick’s achievements in recent years.

Martin Gledhill becomes Holmbridge’s first recipient of the Lady Sykes Candlestick since the club joined the league in 2017. A dedicated wicketkeeper, he won the George Harrison Cup in 2018 and works tremendously hard off the field too. Martin’s constant energy and beyond-the-call-of-duty efforts have helped Holmbridge achieve Clubmark status (one of the first clubs to do so), establishing them as one of the most well-organised and stable clubs in the league.

Both Lambert and Gledhill will receive their awards at the 2024 Awards & Prize Presentation Evening, where they have been invited as guests of the League’s President.
